Interlibrary Loan (ILL)
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service through which library users can obtain materials (books, articles, and more) from other libraries.
Who’s Eligible
-
NYU faculty, students, and staff are eligible
- NYU users with affiliations at the Law, Dental, or Medical school have access to a dedicated ILL service at the Law Library or Lapidus Health Sciences Library. These users should submit requests through their home library.
What We Borrow
Materials not available at NYU or Consortium Libraries. If you can’t access needed resources through our Libraries, we will do our best to get it for you through ILL.
In a Rush?
-
Request just the chapter you need instead of the entire book. There is a one-chapter limit.
-
Use EZBorrow to request books. Books arrive more quickly than traditional ILL in most cases.
Make a Request
You can submit an ILL request from the item page in the Library Catalog or directly through ILL.
Check the Status of Your Request
Go to ILL and view “My Requests.”
You will be notified via email when the item has been received and where it can be picked up.
Request Limits
For scan requests, only 1 chapter, or around 10% of the work, may be requested from a work. Copyright policies and scanning limits may vary from library to library.
Loan Periods
The loan period for ILL materials can vary; you’ll be informed of the due date when your item arrives.
-
Print items are typically available for 3 to 4 weeks. Renewals are granted at the discretion of the library which lent the item to us. Please contact us at lib-ill@nyu.edu to request a renewal and we will let you know if a renewal can be granted.
-
Audio/visual material loans are generally much shorter (usually 3 to 7 days). Audio/visual materials are generally not renewable.
-
Articles and book chapters delivered electronically are accessible for 15 days or 5 views, whichever comes first. You are encouraged to save or print your document before it disappears. Documents that expire or are deleted cannot be retrieved.
